..NO END IN SIGHT TO ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND DAILY HEAT
INDICES PUSHING 105 DEGREES EACH AFTERNOON...
Today: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 90s. East winds 5 to 10 mph. Heat index readings 98 to 102.
Tonight: Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 70s. East winds 5 to 10 mph.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected across portions of southeast Georgia and possibly the Suwannee River valley this afternoon and evening. gusty winds and frequent lightning will be possible with the stronger storms.
Widespread highs in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon will push heat index into the 100 to 105 degree range for extended periods. use extra caution while outside today.
Forecast Details: middle level high pressure ridge will remain northwest of the region and clockwise flow around the feature will allow for deep moisture over the Carolina's (precipitable water amounts near 2 inches) to rotate south into southeast Georgia this afternoon and evening. This combined with intense heating at the surface into the middle/upper 90s will allow for scattered showers/thunderstorms to develop across inland southeastern Georgia with storm movement toward the southwest, possibly getting into the Suwannee River valley during the evening hours. Some of the stronger storms may have gusty winds of 40-50 miles per hour. Heat index will once again top out close to 105 degrees.
