The city of Hawthorne has issued a precautionary boil water notice effective 12 am Wednesday. The Public Works Department is switching to a new water supply tank and that work will result in a loss of pressure until 5 am, when pressure will be restored. This Precautionary Boiled Water Notice will remain in effect until bacteriological testing demonstrates that there is no presence of bacteriological contaminates.
The city of Hawthorne anticipates this notice will be rescinded by Thursday afternoon.
It applies to all Hawthorne Public Water System customers.
As a precaution, residents and customers of the city of Hawthorne Public Water System should use one of the following strategies to ensure safe drinking water:
Boil the water before use, holding it in a rolling boil for one minute.
Disinfect it by adding 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of plain unscented household bleach per gallon of water, and then let it stand for 30 minutes. If the water is cloudy after 30 minutes, repeat the procedure.
Use bottled water for drinking.
The City of Hawthorne will rescind this precautionary boil water notice after sampling results show acceptable bacteria levels. Residents and customers who have questions regarding this issue should call 481-6111.
