..INCREASING RAIN CHANCES LATE TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY..
Today:Partly cloudy. A 20 % chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s. East winds 10 to 15 mph.
Tonight: Partly cloudy with chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Patchy fog after midnight. Lows in the mid 70s. East winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 %.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon into the early evening across northeast Florida mainly south andeast of a line from St Augustine to Gainesville. Frequent lightning and gusty winds will be the main concerns with the stronger storms.
Highs in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon will push heat index into the 100 to 105 degree range for extended periods. Use extra caution while outside today.
Forecast Details: mean layer (1000-500 mb) ridge remains north of the area while Tropical Storm Bonnie, approaching the northwest Bahamas, continues to move west-northwest. Dry and stable air aloft, out ahead of Bonnie will move into the area today which will help squash development of storms much of the day. Moisture on the northern periphery of Bonnie will approach our southeast zones late this afternoon and have leaned towards the GFS MOS and PVS forecast of 30-40% probability of precipitation for the southeast zones and (silent) 10% elsewhere from Jacksonville and Lake City north. Another hot one due to the warm and dry air mass with maximum temperatures in the middle to upper 90s inland and near 90 coast with heat index 99 to 103 degrees.
Tonight a band of moisture north of Bonnie will move north across coastal northeast Florida/southeast Georgia. The NAM and SREF hinting at convergent bands of showers offshore coming ashore the coast. Will continue with PVS probability of precipitation of 30-40% along the coast, mainly after midnight with probability of precipitation of 20% or less elsewhere. Local fog tools indicating patchy late night fog across the inland areas but cloud cover and winds should help preclude fog development near and along the coast.
Today's Pollen Levels: 4.2 Low Medium (on s a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Grass.
