Today: Sunny, with a high near 77. Northwest wind between 6 and 8 mph.

Tonight:  Patchy fog after 1am. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 41. Light north wind.

Hazardous weather: dry air will continue to produce dangerous fire weather conditions during the afternoon across northeast Florida.

Forecast Details:. surface and aloft high pressure system dominates the southern and middle Mississippi Valley area with a middle level ridge axis across northern Florida. A large/vertically stacked low pressure system is located over the western Atlantic near 39n69w moving southeastward. Very dry air mass continues as evidenced by water vapor imagery and 00z JAX sounding showing precipitable water of 0.33 inches. 1020 mb surface high is located along the Louisiana coast and surface winds are light from the west and northwest over the region.

Models are good agreement showing the surface and aloft area of high pressure to shift eastward during the short term period with high pressure rebuilding over the eastern U.S. as the low pressure off the Atlantic coast shifts further out to sea. This will
allow our current low level flow from the west and northwest to shift veer to a northeast
direction by Thursday and help moderate our temperatures. MOS guidance temperatures are in good agreement with highs in the middle to upper 70s and lows in the upper 30s to the upper 40s to near 50. Coldest temperatures are expected inland over northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. Models indicate and GFE tools suggest patchy fog possible over inland northeast Florida tonight and have inserted into the forecast although with the dry air mass any fog formation will be shallow and quick to dissipate after sunrise on Wednesday.
