… Rain Chances To Increase Through Thursday And Should End Dry Spell At Gainesville ...
Today: A 20 % chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. East wind between 7 and 9 mph. Tonight: A 30 % chance of showers, mainly after 8pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. East wind between 3 and 7 mph.
Hazardous weather: patchy fog will develop early this morning across portions of the forecast area. Visibilities may be reduced to around one mile in a few locations.
Forecast Details:. Back door front has settled along the Florida/Georgia border and will become focus for precipitation the next several days. Slow increase in low level moisture from developing onshore flow off the Atlantic will combine with increasing moisture in the middle/upper levels ahead of developing cut-off low over the Gulf of Mexico. This will lead to 20-30% rain chances today, increasing to 30-40% rain chances on Wednesday, then finally to 40-60% rain chances on Thursday as low ejects out of the Gulf of Mexico and across the forecast area. For now have capped probability of precipitation around 50% for Thursday with embedded strong thunderstorm activity as well, mainly across northeastern Florida. Later forecast packages may show a tweak upwards to likely probability of precipitation as we near the event. Rainfall amounts will be light and scattered through Wednesday before one quarter to one half inch amounts will be possible on Thursday. Temperatures will remain at or slightly above climatology values through the short term period with highs in the 70s and lows generally around 60 degrees. The increased low level moisture will support more late night fog formation, but the increased cloud cover will also keep dense fog to a minimum, so have kept just generic patchy fog in the zone forecast product/grids for now. Northeast surge pushing in behind back door cold front along the southeast Georgia coast will get quite breezy with 15-20mph winds with higher gusts and confidence grids are supporting about a 40-50% chance of Lake Wind Advisory conditions, but will hold off with any issuance with the morning package.
