Bob Dylan and his band will perform at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville on Oct. 8, O'Connell Center officials confirmed today.
Tickets for the Friday-night performance will be $20 for University of Florida students, $40 for members of the general public, though an on-sale date has yet to be confirmed, said Renee Musson, associate director of the O'Connell Center. An on-sale date posted on Dylan's website, www.bobdylan.com, of Sept. 20 for UF students and Sept. 21 for the general public has not been confirmed, O'Connell officials said.
The Gainesville performance, which will be the third date of a new fall tour that begins in Florida on Oct. 6 in Fort Lauderdale and continues in Tampa on Oct. 7, will mark the third O'Connell Center appearance by the venerable singer/songwriter/performer. Dylan first performed in the O'Dome in 1988 and returned in 1992, Musson said.
The fall tour will coincide with the Oct. 19 release of “The Witmark Demos,” the ninth volume of Dylan's Bootleg Series of live recordings, and the box-set release of “Bob Dylan – The Original Mono Recordings.”
The two-CD “Witmark Demos” includes 47 songs the singer had recorded solo accompanying himself with guitar, harmonica and piano for his first music publishers between 1962 and 1964. Among them are versions of “Blowin' In The Wind,” and “The Times They Are A Changin'” and “Mr. Tambourine Man.”
“Bob Dylan – The Original Mono Recordings” features Dylan's first eight albums in a set that reproduces their original mono sound.
