...THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TODAY...Today: Partly cloudy. A 20 % chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight: Partly cloudy in the evening then clearing. Lows in the lower 70s. Southeast winds 5 mph.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening along the I- 75 corridor of northeast Florida. Storms will move north to northwest around 10 to 15 mph. The main convective concerns will be gusty winds and frequent lightning. storms will decrease in coverage and intensity after sunset.
Forecast Details: The local area remains in the western edge of the Bermuda ridge and is fairly dry over Florida and very moist over interior Georgia. Sea breeze convergence will fire convection this afternoon with the best chances over the Suwannee Valley and interior southeast Georgia and almost no convection along the coast. Of course with less convection/cloud coverage temperatures will remain about 5 degrees above climatology today with heat index values approaching 100.
