Today's WX Outlook...

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TODAY...

Today: Partly cloudy with chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 90s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60 %. Heat index readings 99 to 103.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s. Southeast winds 5 mph in the evening becoming light. Chance of rain 30 %.

Numerous thunderstorms are forecast today. The stronger storms will be capable of wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.

Heat index will top out between 100 and 104 today.

Forecast Details: satellite imagery shows the shortwave trough axis runs diagonally through southeast Georgia into Apalachee Bay with drier air to the north and moisture to the south. Surface analysis shows a broad trough north of the area. The Bermuda high is parked over the western Atlantic.

Shortwave energy will remain over the forecast area today and will interact with daytime heating to provide another day of numerous shower/thunderstorm coverage. More strong thunderstorms with frequent lightning and gusty winds possible. Additional cloud cover is expected to keep maximum temperatures in the lower 90s with heat index of 99 to 103 degrees. Models show vorticity axis shifting northward and best chance for evening thunderstorms will be over southeast Georgia.
