Today: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 %. Heat index readings 99 to 103.
Tonight: Partly cloudy. A 20 % chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Patchy fog after midnight. Lows in the mid 70s. West winds 5 mph.
Scattered thunderstorms are forecast today. Some of these storms will be capable of wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, torrential downpours with localized flooding and frequent lightning.
Heat index readings will top out between 102 and 108 today. If you plan to be outside, avoid prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity. drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
Forecast Details: southwesterly flow will continue today with ridge axis south of the area. Heat index between 101 and 108 are expected for this afternoon with precipitable waters near 2.3 across the area. Surface trough across the area this morning is weaker than previous with less nocturnal activity along the Gulf Coast than previous mornings. Think thunderstorms activity will hold off until around noon allowing temperatures a chance to reach middle 90s before thunderstorm activity erupts.
