...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TODAY... Now Through 815 am...scattered showers and thunderstorms are moving into Marion, Alachua and Gilchrist County near Sparr, Belleview and Gainesville. These storms will push to the east around 10 to 15 mph. Locally heavy rainfall around three-quarters of an inch should be expected with the stronger storms and a quarter of an inch elsewhere.
Today: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60 %. Heat index readings 104 to 108 in the afternoon.
Tonight: Partly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows in the mid 70s. Southwest winds 5 mph.
Numerous thunderstorms are forecast today. The main concern will be the potential for localized flooding caused by torrential downpours. In addition, a few storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts.
Heat index readings will top out between 105 and 110 today. If you plan to be outside, avoid prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity. drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
Forecast Details: temperature forecast a bit tricky again today. It will depend on how early convection breaks out and as we saw yesterday it will not take much of a delay to allow temperatures to soar into the 90s. Feel clouds and rain will hold off long enough to allow most locations to reach the middle 90s. These temperatures combined with dew points solidly in the middle 70s translates to heat index around 105 degrees. A few locations may see heat index top out near 110 degrees.
