Tonight: Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs around 90. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent. Heat index readings 99 to 103.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in northeast Florida late today and overnight.
Heat index readings will top out between 100 and 105 today. If you plan to be outside avoid prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity, drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
Forecast Details: upper high pressure ridge has shifted southwest with trough just off the east Seaboard of the US. Dry air is noted on water vapor imagery over central and south Florida with weak diffluent flow over the immediate area. Pre-frontal surface trough extends from the Middle-Atlantic States to the central Gulf of Mexico coast with cold front across extreme north Georgia and Alabama. Mostly sunny skies prevail at middle-morning with temperatures in the middle 80s.
Expect surface trough and cold front to very gradually shift southeast today as moisture levels slowly increase from the north. MUCAPES across the north 2/3 of the area are in the 3000 j/kg range with some modest CIN values. Expect thunderstorm initiation to be near pre-frontal trough as well and ahead of surface cold front to the north. These storms will likely make more progress into southeast Georgia and the extreme north Suwanee Valley by late afternoon or early evening. Due to the high instability, a few storms may be strong, but no organized severe weather is anticipated. Light northwest flow aloft may allow some storms to reach a bit farther southeast during the evening hours. Southwest gradient flow should either prevent a sea breeze or keep it pinned right along the coast. However, thermal trough and coastline orientation may provide a bit more low-level convergence over extreme southeast Georgia late in the day. Maximum temperatures are expected to be a couple of degrees lower than on Friday, but still above normal with a few readings approaching the century mark.
Today's Pollen Levels: 3.4 Low Medium (on s a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Grass & Nettle.
