...Continued Hot With Increased Rain Chances…
Today: A 40 % chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. West wind between 5 and 8 mph.
Tonight: A 30 % chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. West-southwest wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm.
...Very Hot Conditions To Continue...
Scattered storms are expected to develop today mainly during the afternoon and evening as the sea breezes begin to develop and progress inland. Storm motion will be toward the east at 5 to 10 mph. Periods of heavy rainfall, small hail and strong gusty winds will be the primary concerns in addition to lightning.
Maximum temperatures in upper 90s again will push heat indices into the 105 to 109 range this afternoon. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors.
Today's pollen level: 3.7-Low Medium (on a scale of 1to12): predominate pollen: Grass and Oak.
Forecast Details: high-pressure ridge will remain in place aloft while Bermuda high-pressure ridge axis will remain just south of the region. This will keep a light westerly steering flow at less than 10 knots. With moisture levels close to 2 inches thunderstorm coverage during the afternoon and evening hours will be in the 40-50% range today and increase into the 50-60% range Wednesday/Thursday. Main axis of rain will be along the US 301 corridor with a slow drift back toward the I-95 corridor by the late afternoon and evening hours. Main storm threat will be heavy rainfall with the slow storm motion, but still expect a few strong storms with gusty winds and excessive lightning as well.
Highs today still expected to push into the mid/upper 90s with heat indices topping out in the 105-109 range, just shy of heat advisory criteria.
