Tonight: A 40 % chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. West-southwest wind between 5 and 9 mph.

An upper level disturbance will bring an increase in thunderstorm activity today. A few storms may become severe with damaging wind gusts and large hail. Average storm motion will be to the east at around 20-mph.

Forecast Details: Upper trough axis will drop across the cwa and bring an increase in showers and thunderstorms today. Temperatures will once again get off to a quick start and heat index readings are expected to briefly top out around 100 degrees before rain brings some relief. Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible today. 0-6Km bulk shear values are expected around 30 knots across northern Florida this afternoon. Highs in the low 90s with dew points in the low to mid 70s yields cape values close to 3000 j/kg. PW values are expected to climb to around 2.25 inches. 500-mb temperatures will start out around -8c with some warming expected during the day. Increasing dynamics in very moist and unstable airmass will be supportive for a few severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts and large hail.

1988 - Thunderstorms in Florida produced wind gusts to 65 mph which damaged two mobile homes northwest of Melbourne injuring six people.
