Monday WX Outlook...

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South southwest wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tonight: A 20 % chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind between 3 and 9 mph

An approaching cold front and upper disturbance will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to the area today. The stronger storms will produce frequent cloud to ground lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rain. The showers and thunderstorms will decrease in coverage during the evening after the disturbance moves through.

Approaching short wave trough was producing scattered showers/storms from across Florida west coast to the Florida Big Bend into southwest Georgia. As the trough moves through the region today it will combine with a moist and unstable airmass and produce numerous showers and storms today. Not expecting any severe storms due to cloud cover (and lack of heating). However, using a temp/dew point of 84/70 gets a surface based cape of 2500-3000j with li of around -5 on the model soundings so a few storms may be strong with frequent cloud to ground lightning and gusty winds. Have gone with amounts of around a half an inch, but may be locally higher amounts especially near Gulf Coast. As the short wave trough moves out this evening, expecting a reduction in showers from west to east. Have 30% chance of showers going for the eastern half of the area this evening.
