When spring has sprung and zucchinis are spreading on the ground -- once again it will be time for the Annual Windsor Zucchini Festival. Won't you come join us for a day of fund, food, music, and laughter?
The Windsor Zucchini Festival was started to fund the volunteer fire department. And on Saturday, the town will host its 26th festival at the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, on County Road 234 between state roads 20 and 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the other side of Newnans Lake if you come by boat
Th Festival feature everything zucchini from zucchini carving and cooking contests to a zucchini cake walk and even a Duke of Zuke & Zuqueenie Pageant. The festival raises money through the sale of chicken dinners and other foods, a bake sale and raffle, Money also is raised through the children's ride and game section, which is $10 for the whole day. There will be a bounce house, swings and pony rides.
Live music from the groups Vivid Sky City, from 8 to 11:30 a.m., and Shameless from noon to 4:30 p.m. is planned. Also planned are a magic show and tango dancing. Attendees also can purchase a festival T-shirt, which each year features a historical place on the back.
Opening ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. will include an invocation, presentation of colors and a tribute to firemen. It will be followed by the Duke of Zuke and Zuqueenie Pageant at 11 a.m.
The Cook-A-Zuke Judging event begins at noon (with entries submitted by 11 a.m.). A prize drawing will close the event.
Though parking at the site is limited, a free "Zuke Trolley" shuttle service will take people from the Baptist Church to the festival grounds.
