...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON...Today: Mostly cloudy early in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60 %. Heat index readings 105 to 109.
Tonight: Partly cloudy. A 20 % chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows in the mid 70s. Southeast winds 5 mph in the evening becoming light.
Numerous showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected today and slow storm motions will allow for locally heavy rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches in the stronger storm activity. Gusty winds around 40 mph and frequent cloud to ground lightning will be possible as well.
The combination of temperatures in the low to mid 90s and high humidity will create heat indices around 105 degrees prior to the onset of any precipitation.
Forecast Details: Deep tropical moisture and higher instability (2000-2500 j/kg) over the warm Atlantic waters has been supportive of a few thunderstorms over the offshore waters early this morning. This activity is occurring within a band of deeper moisture which is prognosticated to reach the East Coast of our County Warning Area this morning as the remnant of tropical depression 5 slides west along the Gulf Coast. Low to middle level cyclonic flow within a very moist and unstable airmass will be good enough for scattered to numerous showers with embedded thunderstorms. Will continue with 40 to 60 % probability of precipitation, highest across the interior this afternoon where a convergent band of thunderstorms is anticipated. Heat indices will top out between 100 and 110 as temperatures climb into the low to middle 90s, highest values across the interior. Locally heavy rainfall in slow moving thunderstorms will be the main threat today.
Today's Pollen Levels: 6.5 Medium (on a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Grass and chenopods.
