...High Heat Indices...
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon across southeast Georgia and extreme northeast Florida, with decreasing chances farther south. Storm motion will be slow and to the south. The main convective concerns will be gusty winds.
Heat index values are expected to range from 100 to 105 degrees this afternoon. Exercise caution when outdoors.
Today's pollen level: 3.8-Low Medium (on a scale of 1to12): predominate pollen: Grass and Oak.
Forecast Details: a weakening surface front will slide southward toward our Georgia zones today while a surface ridge axis continues across central Florida. The 1000-700 MB mean ridge center will meander over north Georgia today, with moisture and short wave trough energy rotating south-southwest across our area on the east side of the ridge in concert with the diffusing surface front. These convective ingredients combined with sea breezes and resultant outflows will bring a low-chances of rain to our northern zones today, with only a slight chance generally south of the I-10 corridor. The main convective concerns will be gusty winds today due to mid level dry air. A low chance of mainly afternoon/evening showers.
1989 - Temperatures soared into the 90s across much of Florida. Lakeland reported a record high of 99 degrees for the second day in a row.
