1828 Governor William P. Duval, on behalf of the Federal government, was presented with a receipt for $1323.00 for the U.S. government’s payment for the transportation of 2,412 Seminoles from their homes in the southern part of the peninsula to reservations in central Florida and the Panhandle.
This was according to the terms of the “Treaty of Moultrie Creek,” signed September 18, 1823.
1828 The City of Magnolia was incorporated today under the aegis of the Territorial government.
1921 The Jewish congregation, B’nai Israel, was incorporated in Gainesville.
1926 In public ceremonies today, Miami’s Biscayne Boulevard was dedicated.
1981 Today the space shuttle (STS-2) was launched from Cape Canaveral.
