Here is a list of events happening this weekend:

29th annual Downtown Festival and Art Show: 10 am-5 pm today, Bo Diddley Community Plaza, 111 E. University Ave., and downtown Gainesville. Free.

National French Week Harvest Festival: Event features hors d’oeurves, fromages and desserts, and tango dancing, 7 pm today, University Women’s Club, 2809 W. University Ave. Cost $15 advance, $20 at the door; students are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Florida’s Writer’s Festival: Series of readings and lectures featureing nationally distin guished poets and fiction writers, 1-3 pm today, Headquarters Library, 401 E. University Ave. Free.

Koi Show: Colorful Asian fish will be on display for sale, 9 am-5 pm today and Sunday, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, 4700 SW 58th Drive.

Taste of the Holidays: A sampling event of holiday meals by Fresh Market, 11 am-5 pm today, Fresh Market, 4120 NW 16th Blvd.

Turkey Creek Forest: Arts and crafts show and bake sale, 9 am-1 pm today, Turkey Creek Forest Club House, 8620 NW 13th St.

Fall Festival at Idylwild Elementary School: Festival with prizes, food, a petting zoo and more, 10 am-2 pm today, 4601 SW 20th Terrace.

Sun Harvest Ecovillage Presentation: Tours of Ecohouses, workshops and a social event, 3-8 pm today, Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice Teaching Far, 10665 SW 89th Ave., Hampton.

Chai Lights: An evening auction with champagne, desserts, a coffee bar and music, 7:30-10 pm today, Temple Shir Shalom, 3855 NW Eighth Ave. Tickets: $18.

Rural Folklife Days: Celebrate the region’s rural past with demonstrations and hands-on learning activities, 9 am-2:30 pm Today, Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, 11016 Lillian Saunders Drive, White Springs.

Simple Gifts Bazaar: A harvest of handmade holiday gifts and treats, 10 am-3 pm today, 702 NW 38th St.



The First United Methodist Church of High Springs will hold its annual Fall Celebration on Sunday, Nov. 7. Admission is free to all, with outside activities taking place from 3 pm to 5 pm and inside activities from 5 pm to 6 pm.
