The Alachua County Food Security Summit will feature an update on the 2009 Gainesville-Alachua County Hunger Abatement Plan, a presentation by the Alachua County Healthy Communities Initiative, and presentation of a recently-completed report by Florida Organic Growers entitled Community Vision for Food System Development in Gainesville-Alachua County: A Local Food Action Plan. Following presentations will be discussion of the creation of a food policy council led by Florida Organic Growers Executive Director Marty Mesh. Julie Paradis, Administrator for the USDA Food & Nutrition Service, is the keynote speaker at the Summit’s stakeholders’ luncheon, which will feature food procured from local producers.

The Summit is co-sponsored by Alachua County and the City of Gainesville. Partners include Florida Organic Growers, Alachua County Nutrition Alliance, Florida Institute for Workforce Innovation and University of Florida.
