1887 The disputed claim by the states of Georgia and Florida to some 1,507,200 acres of land from Chattahoochee to MacClenny was settled in Florida’s favor today by a Federal court.

1943 The first discovery of oil in Florida was announced by officials of the Humble Oil Company in Fort Myers.  After a thirty year search, the company reached an oil reservoir at 11,700 feet while drilling at Sunniland in Collier County.
