In the Sunshine State on this day in 1565 Troops under General Pedro Menendez de Aviles continued their march toward the French outpost in North America, Fort Caroline.

In 1882 Orange City was incorporated.

In 1928 The charter for St. Petersburg Junior College, which had first opened its doors to students in 1927, was signed by L. Chauncey Brown on behalf of the school’s founders. St. Petersburg Junior College is the oldest such institution in Florida.
