Today In History

April 21st 1898: Spanish-American War begins, good for Florida business in Tampa and Jacksonville, not so good for the troops that were sent to liberate Cuba from Spain.

On a similar note…

April 21st 1914: US marines occupy Vera Cruz, Mexico, in response to the Tampico Affair of April 9, 1914 and stay 6 months.

Probably most note-able…

April 21st 1989: Thousands of Chinese crowd into Beijing's Tiananmen Square cheering students demanding greater political freedom, it didn't end well.
