… Widespread Rain Today ...
… Few Embedded Storms Possible In Northeast Florida This Afternoon...
Now...
Widespread rain with embedded heavy rain showers will continue to move across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. The showers are moving northeast to east 10 to 15 mph. Rainfall amounts will vary...from a quarter to a half of an inch over most areas...with isolated areas of one inch. Brief periods of heavy rainfall will produce ponding water on roadways.
Today: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. High near 62. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Tonight: A slight chance of showers. Areas of fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Hazardous Weather: low pressure is forecast to track across northeast Florida this afternoon bringing widespread rain to the area. A few embedded thunderstorms are possible across northeast Florida this afternoon. Rainfall amounts of around an inch are expected but locally heavier amounts are possible especially in areas that get storms this afternoon.
Areas of fog are expected tonight...with patches of dense fog possible in a few areas due to the rainfall.
Forecast Details:short wave trough in the northern Gulf approaches the area today and exits the area tonight. Good agreement among models on surface low...in the east central Gulf...to move into northeast Florida late this afternoon and then the Carolina coast tonight where it will begin to intensify further. Strong isentropic lift...low level convergence...and upper diffluence all point to widespread rain overspreading the area today. WSR-88D already indicating widespread showers across the central and north Gulf moving into Gulf Coast and upper Suwannee Valley. Expect bulk of activity to move in during the late morning into afternoon. Have taken a blend of the 00z GFS and 06z HPC for the quantitative precipitation forecast and have total quantitative precipitation forecast amounts of around an inch at most locales...with lesser amounts across the far northern zones. There maybe locally heavier amounts (1+ inches) in some areas. Models indicate MU convective available potential energy of 500-800j moving in northeast Florida this afternoon and there may be a few embedded elevated storms.
The probability of precipitation will be coming to an end during the evening as the low moves out and dry slot moves in. Have kept likely probability of precipitation in across southeast Georgia during the evening and lowered probability of precipitation to 20% across far southwest zones. After 1 am...probability of precipitation will be 20% everywhere on the mainland and 30% over the water.
With drier air aloft moving in tonight and Tuesday night and recent rainfall...have included areas of fog for all locales. There will probably be a few patches of dense fog in a few areas. Confidence is low on widespread dense fog due to low cloud cover that will be wrapping around the low.
Today's Pollen Levels: 0.7 Low (on a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Cedar/Juniper, Mable and Elm.
