Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. East wind at 9 mph becoming south.
Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Low around 53. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Hazardous Weather: Dense fog is expected over portions of the forecast area early this morning with visibilities of one quarter of a mile or less at times. Motorists are urged to use extra caution this morning as the visibility can vary considerably over short distances. The fog should begin to lift by 8 am and should burn off in most locations between 9 and 10 am.
Rain chances will increase rapidly tonight as an upper disturbance and cold front cross over the area. There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms over northeast Florida starting by late evening.
Forecast Details: Light winds and mostly clear skies have enabled dense fog to form in a number of areas early this morning. Based on observation and reports, dense fog advisory is in effect through 9 am. The fog layer is about 300 feet or less thick and should dissipate fairly quickly by middle morning. Surface high is pressure is located over Georgia with weak ridging aloft at 700 MB, with flow at 500 MB and above west to west-southwest with the next shortwave trough digging in across the Southern Plains. Strong cold front is pushing through Texas at this time.
Today high pressure system will advance quickly eastward today as upstream cold front over Texas moves eastward. Weak area of low pressure is forecast to form over the central Gulf today and move eastward while parent low pressure along the front will be located well north of the area. Clouds are expected to increase from the southwest as the shortwave trough pushes rapidly eastward today with no probability of precipitation expected. Highs expected to manage the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
Tonight the main event unfolds as strong isentropic ascent occurs ahead of shortwave and a plume of moisture with precipitable waters up to 1.5 inches pushes into our southern zones. At this time anticipate categorical rain chances (80% or more) across the southern tier of zones with 50-70% elsewhere. Models indicate a bit less instability with MUCAPE likely remaining under 500 j/kg over northeast Florida though enough for isolated thunderstorms over the southern zones given the strong shear that will be in place.
Today's Pollen Levels: 6.0 Medium (on a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Cedar/Juniper, Mable and Elm.
