We are blessed in this area with abundant water resources, but these are felling the strain and many areas of the state are eyeing or water with a growing thirst....

Hearings will be held on plans for water distribution in a processes to set long term legislation. Now is time to make your voices heard …

Public meetings on the draft of the water supply assessment:

-- Tuesday 1 p.m., Suwannee River Water Management District office, 9225 C.R .49, Live Oak
-- Tuesday 7 p.m., City Hall, 17651 N.W. 90th Court, Fanning Springs
-- Tuesday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m., Holiday Inn Express, 601 Everett Way, Perry


A growing problem

A look at projected water usage throughout the region:

-- Water use within the Suwannee district is projected to rise 10.34-62.81 million gallons a day from the current range of 256-263 million gallons per day.

-- For the area of the St. Johns district included in the Suwannee study, groundwater withdrawals are projected to rise from 490.7 million gallons a day to nearly 609 million gallon a day by 2030.
