Today:Sunny, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming west between 5 and 8 mph.
Tonight: Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 59. West wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm.
Hazardous weather: patchy fog will reduce visibilities to around one mile in a few locations early this morning. Areas of fog are expected to develop across portions of the area late tonight. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and use only low-beam headlights in fog.
Forecast Details: shortwave over west Tennessee is all that is left of upper low from 24 hours ago. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developed just north of the Altamaha river around midnight in a region with slightly higher instability and positive vorticity advection. This activity has shifted northeast with just isolated showers farther west. Early morning skies were mostly cloudy over northwest zones as well as over the extreme south with high clouds streaming from the periphery of Hurricane Paula. Temperatures range from the middle 60s in cloud areas to the upper 50s in some inland clear spots.
Isolated showers will shift southeast into southeast Georgia this morning before upper support for precipitation disappears. Surface cold front will stall just north of the area today. A sharp upper trough will approach the area from the northwest on Thursday. Surface front will push through the remainder of the area in response to this trough. Probability of precipitation will be minimal as the front moves across the area.
MOS temperatures are in fair agreement with the exception being maximum temperatures on Thursday. This is due in part to the model handling of the front and cloud cover. Have gone with a model blend of temperatures for this period, which is close to the previous forecast package.
The best chance of more widespread fog formation is expected early Thursday morning although patchy fog is possible this morning as well.
Today's Pollen Levels: 6.5 Medium (on a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Ragweed, Grass and Chenopods.
