Today: Partly cloudy with chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning then mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 90s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 %. Heat index readings 102 to 106.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening then slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the mid 70s. Southwest winds 5 mph. Chance of rain 40 %.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become likely this afternoon and evening over the area. the stronger thunderstorms will produce strong gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes. Also, due to a slow storm motion locally heavy rainfall will occur in some locations.
Forecast Details: convective complex that developed over north Georgia-South Carolina yesterday has reached southeast Georgia and adjacent coastal waters. Complex has weakened but still producing gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall in southeast Georgia. Outflow boundary has reached the southeast Georgia-northeast Florida line and continues to move south. Expect activity to continue to weaken this morning as storms move closer to upper ridge and warmer temperatures aloft. This boundary may be focus for new convection later this morning as it encounters a southwest flow off the Gulf. Upper ridge will remain to the southwest with troughing to the north this weekend. A northwest flow over the area will advect in any thunderstorm activity that develops near frontal boundary that will sink south into central Georgia. High moisture and instability over the area will result in likely afternoon/evening probability of precipitation Saturday and Sunday with GFS model sounding showing 3-4k convective available potential energy.
Today's Pollen Levels: 6.2 Medium (on a scale to 12); Predominate Pollen: Grass and chhenopods.
