In an effort to increase the safety of pedestrians, the Gainesville Police Department, the University of Florida and the Alachua Sheriff’s Office have joined forces and are announcing a major police enforcement campaign to increase driver yielding at crosswalks in the City. The campaign will be sustained for many months.
We are sending you this notice to alert you that the Gainesville Police Department, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department, and the University of Florida Police Department will begin an intensive program of stopping and ticketing drivers that do not yield to pedestrians in crosswalks starting soon.
The three police agencies are trying to make Gainesville safer for all road users, especially children, youth and seniors. They are counting on everyone's support to reduce traffic injuries.
