... Gainesville NOAA Weather Radio transmitter will be off the air Wednesday, August 18th...

Gainesville weather radio station wxj-60 which broadcasts on a frequency of 162.475 mhz will be off the air for much of Wednesday, August 18th. The 1970's era transmitter is being replaced by a state of the art digital transmitter. Technicians will be on site
in Gainesville Wednesday making the switch. It is hoped the off-air time will only last a couple of hours in the morning however anydifficulties swapping out the units will delay getting the broadcast back on the air.

Brief outages can also be expected on Thursday when alignments and tuning take place with the transmitter and transmission lines.

In recent months the Gainesville NOAA Weather Radio site has received upgrades to the antenna and cabling. With the replacement of the transmitter listeners to wxj-60 should receive a better and more reliable signal.

Here is a list of alternative transmitters covering portions of the Gainesville listening area...
162.55 mhz in Jacksonville...
162.425 mhz in Palatka...
162.525 mhz in Ocala...
162.40 mhz in Lake City...
162.55 mhz in Morriston...
162.40 mhz in Inverness...
162.50 mhz in Sumterville...

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.
