Today's WX Outlook...

NMS/JAX

..Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible Today With Localized Flooding Possible ...

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely in the morning then showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 %.

Tonight: Cloudy. A chance of showers and evening thunderstorms. Patchy fog after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s. East winds 5 mph. Chance of rain 50 %.

...Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible Today...

Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected today across the area. locally heavy rainfall will be the primary concern with rainfall amounts over 2 inches possible. Due to recent heavy rainfall over the area and the slow motion of showers and storms, localized flooding is possible, especially in areas will poor drainage. In addition to heavy rainfall thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Weather Underground

Forecast Details: Sharpening upper trough extends from east Canada to South Carolina. Upper ridge stretches from the central Atlantic across north central Florida and into a building longitudinal ridge over the east plains. At the surface, nearly stationary front extends from North Carolina/South Carolina line to North Texas. Multi-layered cloudiness continues over the area with least amount of cloudiness over our southeast zones. Early morning temperatures range from the lower 70s over a few inland areas to the upper 70s along the southeast Georgia coast.

A squeeze play will be on today as front to the north sinks south ahead of a building high over the west Great Lakes and moisture from the S continues to surge northward. Precipitable water values are prognosticated to reach 2.5 inches later today and this, in concert with continued slow storm motion, will likely lead to locally heavy rainfall. 3-day rainfall amounts have averaged over 2 inches across most of the area will local amounts of over 4 inches. It won't take much to realize localized flooding mainly beneath heavier thunderstorms. Will continue to highlight in severe weather potential statement and zone forecast product but still think most areas can handle these amounts without significant problems.

As upper high builds to the northwest and upper trough shifts east of the area rain chances should decrease through the rest of the short term from north to south. Still will see likely probability of precipitation over northeast Florida on Friday as front stalls and east flow increases. Saturday probability of precipitation will remain highest over northeast Florida, .but have capped at 50 % over the southern zones.

Temperatures will again run at least 5 degrees below normal today due to cloud cover and precipitation. Values will gradually increase back to near climatology by Saturday as clouds and precipitation decrease and heights rise.
