...Hot With Low Rain Chance This Weekend...
Today: Partly cloudy. A 20 % chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 90s. North winds 5 mph increasing to northeast 10 to 15 mphs in the afternoon. Heat index readings 102 to 106.
Tonight: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mphs.
...High Heat Indices...
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon across northeast Florida, mainly along and west of I-75. Storm motion will be south to southwest 5 to 10 mphs. The main convective concerns will be gusty winds.
Heat index values are expected to range from 100 to 105 degrees this afternoon. Exercise caution when outdoors.
Today's pollen level: 3.8-Low Medium (on a scale of 1to12): predominate pollen: Grass and Oak.
Forecast Details: the center of mean layer high pressure form 1000-700mb will meander across the Georgia/Alabama stateline today while an upper level vortex seen on water vapor imagery retrogrades over central Florida. The steering flow between these two features will be light and north-northeast that will focus a drier airmass over the area with PWATs 1.8 inches or less. Despite presence of drier air, believe that there will still be enough instability and sea breeze forcing to support a low chance of rain across the area with the highest chance toward I-75 this evening. The main convective concern will be gusty winds.
Near record setting high temperatures are expected inland today. Record highs may be challenged today at Gainesville of 99 set in 1998.
