Aritarchus, a Greek astronomer living in 200 BC was reportedly the first person to declare that the Earth revolved around the Sun. His theory was disregarded for hundreds of years.
Even today less the 50% of American adults understand that the Earth orbits the Sun yearly, according to a basic science survey.
